Christmas Bin Collections – North Somerset Recycling and Waste

Over the Christmas period, bin collections will be changed. Find out when to put out your bins, where to recycle your tree and other important updates below.

Christmas Bin Collections

To allow for the upcoming bank holidays, recycling and waste collection days will change over Christmas. By Monday 11th January, collections will be back to normal.

Use the calendar to find out when your collection days will be: https://forms.n-somerset.gov.uk/Waste/CollectionSchedule?fbclid=IwAR05OhudANAMhEfS32qA9vPEb2-WkmyXUW3g_WxpOoHMp3YA5uYjwstyDrE

Or see the below and compare your normal collection day with your revised collection day.

If you have excess waste during this time, it is recommended you take it to a recycling centre yourself or try to put a little out each week to ensure crews can finish collections from all households. Do not try to cram it all in the box, especially during wet, windy weather, as this can lead to collection disruptions and rubbish on the street.

Be sure to carefully sort your recycling as this helps to reduce time per collection. Recyclable wrapping paper can be placed with cardboard recycling, which should be flattened so it can fit in the truck. Metallic, plastic and glittery wrapping paper is not recyclable. If you can rip or scrunch up the wrapping paper without it bouncing back, it can be recycled. Remove tape and decorations from the wrapping paper before recycling.

Garden Waste Collections

Garden waste collections are suspended from 18th December to 18th January. This is to help accommodate the excess recycling and waste produced during this period. Collections should return as usual mid-January. Residents signed up to the garden waste collection service are advised to check the calendar in the new year to find out when collections will resume.

Register for garden waste services here.

Christmas Tree Recycling

If you have a real tree and are signed up to the garden waste collection service, you can put your Christmas tree out for garden waste collection when this service resumes in January. The tree must be under 2 metres high and have no decorations on.

Otherwise Christmas trees can be taken to recycling centres or Noahs Ark Zoo. For a donation, St. Peter’s Hospice’s ‘Just Giving’ and Weston Rotary for Weston Hospice’s ‘Pines for Pounds’ will collect your tree from your house. Just Giving will collect on the 8th and 9th of January from a variety of BS postcodes (find out more). Pines for Pounds will collect on 9th January, covering Weston-Super-Mare, Yatton and Congresbury (find out more).

Recycling Centres

If you wish to visit North Somerset recycling centres, you may do so on certain days. They will be closed on 25th and 26th December, however they will reopen on 27th December with normal hours. The sites will also close for one day on New Year’s Day.
