Have your say
Nailsea Town Council urge you to have your say now on the North Somerset Council (NSC) Local Plan consultation on where additional homes could be built in Nailsea.
North Somerset Council (NSC) are consulting on the local plan to identify where additional housing development is possible in locations across North Somerset. This is because NSC have now been asked to find development sites for 23,895 homes from now until 2040 by the UK government. The revised target of 23,895 is 8,620 more than the current figure of 14,902.
Under sites identified as possible Nailsea has the potential to see an expansion in population of 36% by 2040 with an additional 2,401 homes being built. In addition to this, Backwell also has the potential for up to an additional 1,757 new homes. Thus, making a possible total in Backwell and Nailsea of 4,158 extra homes` between now and 2040. With the resultant increase in cars and other infrastructure improvements required.

Map
Please note the colours on the maps indicate:
• Yellow is land considered most suitable for housing development
• Orange is other land with potential for housing development
• Blue is sites with relevant planning consents for housing already since July 2024
This plan and consultation DOES NOT include any infrastructure plans to accompany the potential additional homes. There is mention of “strategic transport improvements” to alleviate congestion and improve connectivity in the plan. Also, that there is additional employment provision to reduce commuting suggested, but no clear plan as to what that will be. Lastly the Reg 19 plan says that the potential growth needs to have additional education and leisure provision as well as nature parks to protect wildlife habitat. But there is no clear view as to how this will be achieved.

Nailsea Town Clerk, Jo Duffy says “Nailsea Town Council strongly urge you to have your say now on this revised local plan.. Nailsea needs a strong voice to tell the planners what is and is not acceptable for our town. Please complete the consultation and /or attend the in-person events to make your views heard”.
