Community Learning offer short courses for adults living in North Somerset (minimum age 19) to help build skills and confidence for work, volunteering and wellbeing. Priority places are given to those who are in receipt of certain benefits or with few or no qualifications. All the courses are FREE for priority learners. Due to funding each person can attend only one course at a time – and are welcomed and encouraged to join follow-on courses.

Becoming a Novelist
Do you have ideas for a novel but you’re not sure how to put them together? This 8-week course is suitable for beginners and more experienced writers will also benefit from the inspirational tasks. You will be exploring techniques such as character creation, setting, descriptive writing and much more. You will have the guidance and support of our creative writing tutor. Free On-Line Maths and English Courses
Would you like an English and/or Maths qualification? If you don’t already have a level 2 or Grade C in English or maths you can take part in this free online course and gain a nationally recognised Functional Skills qualification that is tailored to your level. LINK TO THE COURSES HERE

Prepare to Pass the Driving Theory Test
Improve your understanding of the rules of driving based on the Highway Code. Gain confidence answering multiple choice questions and learn how to approach the Theory and Hazard Perception Tests.

Woodwork for Women
An introduction to woodwork for complete beginners in a relaxed non-competitive environment. Learn hands-on skills and carpentry techniques. Build confidence to safely use hand tools. Information about options for gaining more skills and/or experience.

Introduction to British Sign Language
Learn basic BSL to communicate better with those who are deaf or hard of hearing. Learn finger spelling alphabet, how to introduce yourself and have an initial conversation with someone who uses BSL.

Introduction to IT
A great course for anyone wanting to build up their confidence with computers! Learn new skills: from using the mouse/ touchpad and keyboard to how to create an email address; using the free Google document resources and keeping safe online. There is plenty of advice and support on offer from our knowledgeable staff.

Office Skills
This short course can give you the tools for a career in administration. Content includes Word, PowerPoint and Excel – to improve skills for work. Includes – how to insert tables and charts, create presentations, and add formulas and functions. Learn how to create ‘signatures’ and ‘out of office’ replies used in business emails. Tips for proof reading, avoiding scams, and staying safe online.

Creative Writing
Short Stories On-line course Suitable for beginners and more experienced writers. Explore techniques such as character creation, setting, descriptive writing and much more. ESOL – English for Speakers of Other Languages
Learning English as a Second Language for Pre-Entry (no English) to Entry 1 (some conversational English) in Weston-super-Mare and Clevedon. The courses are designed for those with no confidence and those taking their first steps into classroom learning. Participants will learn about other existing provision and have help to progress to higher levels with Weston College.

Goblin Combe Woodland Adventures
