Schools

Kingshill Primary School.

The Bishop of Taunton attended the opening of the new Kingshill Primary school opening in Nailsea.

Shopping

Food prices.

Prices varied enormously from small shops to supermarkets, but on average prices inlcuded 27p for a pint of milk, 75p for 6 eggs and £4 per kg of Cheddar cheese.

Housing

House prices.

House prices were much cheaper in 2000, for example, a three bedroom semi detached house could be purchased for less than £100,000.

Developments

Tower House Medical Centre.

After 15 months of construction, the Tower House Medical Centre was opened on June 5th, with more facilities and space for staff to work.

Food

The baker’s strike.

Bread lines, rationing and ‘Sold Out’ signs were common over England, this meant that the bakers in Nailsea had to produce 3x the normal amount of bread to keep up with the sudden increase in demand.

Leisure

Scotch Horn Leisure Centre.

Scotch Horn Leisure Centre spent an extensive £1.2 million on redeveloping the site. The centre installed new fitness equipment as well as refurbishing the meeting rooms.
