Update on reinstatement in the Nailsea area
National Grid is building a new 57 kilometre, high voltage electricity line between Bridgwater and Avonmouth to connect six million homes and businesses to new sources of homegrown, low carbon energy.
They are currently reinstating the section of construction roads and accesses from Nailsea Wall north towards Tickenham and south towards Kennmoor Road that were used to build the new T-pylons.
Vehicle movements in and around Nailsea
As part of our reinstatement works, they need to remove the stone that they used to build the temporary construction roads and bring peat in.
You may have noticed an increase in HGV traffic as they have started to coordinate these deliveries. There will be an average 30 HGV wagon movements per day across this area, based on an estimated average for the whole period of the works which will take them into next year. This means that on some days and periods there may be very few lorry movements and others where there is a higher volume of traffic. They class one HGV movement as a round trip to and from site.
Currently, and over the next couple of weeks, higher volumes of traffic are expected as larger quantities of peat are brought in and stone removed. This is to ensure the land can be quickly reinstated and minimise disruption. During this time, residents may see lorry movements of around 50 per day. This number is is then expected to reduce from early August when the works move onto sections of the temporary haul road where peat deliveries are not required as part of the reinstatement.
The HGVs are travelling on roads stipulated in the approved Construction Traffic Management Plan which include: Queen’s Road, Mizzymead Road, parts of Stock Way North/South and Clevedon Road. On the current programme, the deliveries will continue until late Summer 2025.
Please note this may be subject to change and they will aim to keep you updated as the reinstatement works progress. Hinkley Connection apologise for any inconvenience this increased traffic may cause to local residents.
