Nailsea Concert Orchestra Present Elgar’s Enigma Variations & Others

Commemorative Concert

Join Nailsea Concert Orchestra for their commemorative concert on Saturday 24th November at St Francis of Assisi Church in Nailsea to mark 100 years since the end of the First World War. The orchestra will be performing Elgar’s iconic Enigma Variations, Beethoven’s Egmont Overture and Butterworth’s idyllic ‘The Banks of Green Willow’, the anthem for all ‘Unknown Soldiers’. The pieces pay homage to the great sacrifices made by so many in the ‘war to end all wars’. The concert starts at 7.30pm and tickets priced £12 (concessions £10/under 18s £2.50) are available in advance from Nailsea Music Shop or on the door. This concert is in support of The Royal British Legion. The orchestra look forward to seeing you there!

Christmas Craft Fair

Christ Church is delighted to welcome the wonderful group Miscellany for a concert on Saturday 1st December at 7pm. No strangers to Christ Church, Miscellany will be returning for the 12th time since 1991 with an attractive programme of varied and seasonal music on the eve of the first Sunday in Advent; a time to look backwards and forwards as we anticipate Christmas.

We are delighted that our own Director of Music, Phillip Lawrence, has agreed to accompany them on this occasion and we look forward to seeing many familiar faces in the audience.

Tickets cost £8 in advance from Christ Church Office, tel. 01275 859210. Free to those in full-time education. Refreshments are available during the interval.

Nailsea Choral Society @ Clifton Cathedral

Christmas-themed Concert

On Sunday 9th December 2018 at 7.45pm in Clifton Cathedral, Bristol, three local choral societies from Nailsea, Portishead and Chew Valley, will be joining together under the auspices of Clifton International Festival of Music in a special Christmas-themed performance with soloists and full orchestra, the Clifton Sinfonia.

  • Nailsea Choral Society conducted by Tom Williams
  • Portishead Choral Society conducted by Jonathan Palmer
  • Chew Valley Choral Society conducted by David Bednall

The programme for this unique collaboration will feature:

  • Gerald Finzi: Et in Terra Pax;
  • Ralph Vaughan Williams: Fantasia on Christmas Carols;
  • Jonathan Palmer: Awake the Voice!

Jonathan wrote Awake the Voice! for Portishead Choral Society in 2014 and this will be its second performance.

In addition to his work with Nailsea Choral Society, Tom Williams is the Assistant Director of Music at St Martin-in-the-Fields and the Artistic Director of The Clifton International Festival of Music.

David Bednall is recognised as one of the leading choral composers of his generation and is also a highly experienced organist, accompanist, conductor and lecturer.

The concert is being supported by the Paragon Music Trust.

Kids are in for a Christmas treat at Nailsea Little Theatre.

The Union Street venue is hosting a one-off performance by the professionals of Folksy Theatre of one of Hans Christian Andersen’s classic fairy tales.

They’ll take to the stage with The Tin Soldier for a matinee showing at 2.30pm on Sunday December 16.

It’s their second visit to Nailsea as the Little Theatre tries to make a Christmas offering for kids – and the young at heart! – a regular item in its year-round calendar of events.

Folksy’s version of The Tin Soldier will be a multimedia mix including puppetry and live music.

Café Create is a bimonthly performance and open mic evening set-up to promote local talent! Whether you’re an aspiring singer, comedian, entertainer or simply want to get up and perform a poem or tell a story, a variety of acts are welcome.

The event is free to attend and takes place on the 3rd Friday of every other month at The Trinity Centre, with doors opening at 7:30pm. There is also a fair trade bar café, serving a wide range of refreshments. Come along for a great evening that brings together local talent, music and entertainment! As well as a large amount of fair ground rides, the event provides up to 150 car boot stalls and culinary options for everyone.

Every Summer, the community of Nailsea comes together to watch the colourful spectacle of the Nailsea Carnival. With floats and walkers taking to the streets of Nailsea, it’s a great opportunity to see what Nailsea has to offer. The carnival finishes at Millennium Park, where there is an afternoon fete, including dance, children’s rides, a car boot and more. It is a great day for the community of Nailsea to get together!

A free two day family event that features a static motorcycle display in the back garden of the Royal Oak pub, motorcycle related trade stands, live music at the front and children’s entertainment (including bouncy castle and face painting). The event is completely non-profit and every penny raised goes to the Children’s Hospice South West.
