Westminster shenanigans come to Nailsea

Production

Monday 20 to Saturday 25 February 2023

Held at Nailsea Little Theatre 6 Union St, Nailsea, Bristol BS48 4BB

Politicians & dirty tricks are due on stage in Nailsea.

The town’s Little Theatre is putting on ‘Whipping It Up’ by Steve Thompson, a wicked satire on MPs and their doings.

The play – premiered at London’s Bush Theatre in 2006 – takes a no-holds-barred look at the way the Whips operate in Westminster.

It’s a week before Christmas and the government is running into trouble over a new law it’s proposing.

There are chuckles aplenty for playgoers as the Whips’ Office stops at nothing to try to get it through the House of Commons – and quell a potential challenge to the Prime Minister.

One big question is: what exactly lies hidden in the Whips’ safe?

‘Given the turmoil at Westminster lately, this play could hardly be more topical,’ said director Steve Harrison.

‘There are lots of laughs on offer and we hope our audiences will enjoy taking a hard-hitting look with us at political trickery.’

He added: ‘‘They should know that some of the characters involved occasionally use strong language.’

‘Whipping It Up’ will be at the Little Theatre’s Union Street home for six nights from Monday 20 to Saturday 25 February.

Tickets at £12 are available on 0777 298 1037.
