With the bank holiday rapidly approaching, we’ve rounded up the best events happening in the local area to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

Win a Jubilee Hamper

We’re on the hunt for the best dressed house in Nailsea! To celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, we’ve tasked Nailsea residents with decorating the outside of their homes using a theme that relates to the big occasion. Think bunting, think flags, think cream teas, think gold swans! Whatever you choose to do, don’t forget to tag @nailseatowncouncil in your pictures so our judges can choose the best one! The lucky household will receive a 22” hamper from the Hamper Guys, donated by National Grid UK.

Wellbeing & Safety Over the Bank Holiday Weekend

Whether you’re attending an event for the Jubilee weekend or hosting a party for you and your loved ones, it’s important to take precautions to keep everyone around you safe and well. If you’re planning on lighting a beacon to commemorate the occasion, Avon Fire & Rescue Service ask that you let them know on 0117 926 2061. They have also issued the following advice on doing so safely:

  • Ensure structure and base of beacon is sound and don’t light it close to a fence or shed.
  • Don’t burn plastics, metals, or use any accelerants.
  • Don’t light beacon in high winds.
  • Keep children and pets well away.
  • Keep a bucket of water to hand in case of emergencies.
  • Be mindful that embers will remain hot for a long time so continue to keep away and supervise children and pets well after the beacon has gone out.

Throughout the weekend, NHS health and care services will be fully operational, with NHS 111 available 24 hours a day by phone or online via 111.nhs.uk. Minor injuries units, urgent treatments centres, and many community pharmacies will also be open.
