Around a third of people with coronavirus do not get symptoms, and therefore may unknowingly spread the virus. Lateral flow testing for anyone helps to find cases of coronavirus that otherwise may not have been detected. The recommended frequency for lateral flow tests is twice weekly.

Following a positive result, people should follow the self-isolation conditions and isolate for at least 10 days, including household and bubble members. Find out more about self-isolation and how long to isolate for on the NHS website.

Results from lateral flow tests take approximately 30 minutes. As restrictions ease and more people are outside safely mixing with friends and family, taking a test helps to protect those around you.

School children, their households and bubbles, and staff at nurseries, primary and secondary schools, and colleges, should continue to perform twice weekly covid-19 testing. See more and find out if you are eligible with our article on rapid covid-19 testing for school children and households.
