Things to do in Nailsea – Summer 2019 Edition.

With the summer in Nailsea (apparently) approaching. We thought it was a good chance to get together a run-down of events and things to look out for over the summer.

Nailsea and the surrounding area always have something going on to keep you and your family busy over the summer months.

So, if you are looking for something to do over the summer we are here to help. Here are a few dates to keep free in your calendar this year!

Events

Donkey Derby 2019 – 23rd June 2019
12:30 – 15:30

This year celebrates the 34th Annual Donkey Derby at Backwell School. The donkeys from Weston Super Mare beach will be visiting the event to take part in rides and races.

There will be plenty to keep you busy at the Derby – Coconut Shy, Climb the Greasy Pole, Welly Wanging, Tombola, Raffle, Inflatable assault course and much more.

This event is hosted by Backwell Scout Group.

Entry is £1 for Adults and Free for Children.

 

Barn Dance – 28th June 2019
19:30 – 23:30

Why not kick the Summer off with a Barn Dance in support of Children’s Hospice South West at Grove Sports Centre.

Entry to this night of entertainment is £12.50 and includes a ploughman’s roll.

 

Nailsea Carnival 2019 – 6th July 2019
13:00 – 17:00

Nailsea Carnival and Fayre are organised by the Friends of First Nailsea Scout Group (FOFN) on behalf of Nailsea Town Council.

The Carnival Procession will start at 1 pm from Clevedon Road Carpark and finish at Millennium Park.

The Fayre will then run for the afternoon featuring music, dance, children’s rides, stalls and a car boot sale.

Nailsea carnival is always a date to have in your diary to get out, have some fun and support the local community.

 

Nailsea & Backwell Beer & Cider Festival 2019 – 12th-14th July 2019
All Weekend

Nailsea and Backwell Beer and Cider Festival is one date that everyone in town looks forward to. The annual gathering at Nailsea and Backwell Rugby Club for fun, music, entertainment and of course the beer and cider.

Not to forget the money that the event raises for Charity every year with last year’s event raising £15,000 for Children’s Hospice South West.

2019’s selected charity for the event is Great Western Air Ambulance.

To get your tickets pop into John Browns, Butterfly Travel, Maynews, Aimee’s Winehouse, The Rugby Club or Bargain Booze in Clevedon.

Advance tickets are £10.00 (includes 2 free drinks) and the kids go free!

 

Nailsea Concert Orchestra Presents Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue – 13th July 2019

Nailsea Concert Orchestra proudly presents the second concert in its New World Series on Saturday 13th July 2019 at Nailsea Methodist Church.

Come and listen to Gershwin’s iconic Rhapsody in Blue featuring piano soloist Ana England, Albinoni’s Adagio for Strings as well as Warlock’s Capriol Suite, a selection from West Side Story and My Fair Lady, and ’My Perfect World’ by local composer Richard Barnard.

Open rehearsal for those with young families on concert day from 2pm-3.30pm and a pre-concert talk at 6.45pm.

Tickets priced £12 (concessions £10, under 18s/students £2.50) available from Nailsea Music Shop or on the door.

This concert will be in support of The Strawberry Line to Clevedon Group.

The orchestra looks forward to welcoming you to what promises to be another sell-out concert!

 

Bristol Harbour Festival 2019 – 19th July – 21st July
All Weekend

Although not a Nailsea event we can be sure that Nailsea residents will want to keep this date in their diary.

The Bristol Harbour Festival is always worth a visit with plenty to keep the whole family busy and entertained throughout the weekend.

 

Nailsea and District Horticultural Society Summer Show – 3rd August 2019

Nailsea and District Horticultural Society will be hosting their Summer show at Nailsea School on 3rd August.

Entry to this event is £2.00 for adults and children are free.

 

Bristol Balloon Fiesta – 8th – 11th August 2019
All Weekend

Again, strictly speaking not a Nailsea event. However, Bristol’s International Balloon Fiesta is another local event to keep on your calendar for Summer 2019.

The Fiesta is the largest of its kind in Europe and is truly a sight that can only be seen in Bristol.

Even if you decide against attending the event you will see fantastic views of the balloons in the sky across Nailsea.

Entry to this event is free however, parking can be a nightmare, so we recommend hopping on the bus to the other end of Long Ashton to enjoy the event.

 

Alice In Wonderland at Tyntesfield – 16th August 2019
18:00 – 20:30

Immersion Theatre proudly brings the story of Alice in Wonderland alive at Tyntesfield this summer.

Children and adults are invited to join in the hilarity of seeing this classic story brought to life before having the opportunity to meet the characters after the show. This is set to be a perfect day out for the entire family.

Tickets to this event are £16.00 for adults and £8.00 for children.

 

Nailsea Bike Show – 21st September – 22nd September 2019
All Weekend

Why not finish up the summer with a free two-day family event that features a static motorcycle display in the back garden of the Ring O’Bells pub, motorcycle related trade stands, live music at the front and children’s entertainment (including bouncy castle and face painting).

This event is completely non-profit, and every penny raised goes to the Children’s Hospice South West.
